Meet Simon Imhäuser: Sweden's Heavyweight Calisthenics Sensation

A Rising Star in Calisthenics

Simon Imhäuser is a Swedish calisthenics athlete from Stockholm who began his journey in the sport in 2018. Standing 185 cm tall and weighing 86 kg, he quickly made a name for himself in the freestyle scene, proving that strength, technique, and determination can overcome any physical stereotype. Before discovering calisthenics, Simon spent more than 12 years as a competitive swimmer, building the discipline and athletic foundation that would later support his success in street workout.

Champion Athlete

Simon’s biggest breakthrough came in 2019, when he won Beast of the Barz at Fitness Festivalen in Stockholm, a milestone that launched his competitive career. Since then, he has continued to dominate the Scandinavian calisthenics scene. His achievements include 1st place at the Swedish & Nordic Freestyle Calisthenics Championships in 2021 and 2022, 1st place at the Swedish Championship in 1RM Streetlifting (Weighted Calisthenics) in 2022, and 2nd place at the WSWCF Freestyle Calisthenics World Championships in the Heavyweight category in 2022. Among all competitions, the 2022 edition of Beast of the Barz remains his personal favorite experience.

A Strong Foundation

Simon’s background in swimming played a key role in shaping his athletic mindset. Years of structured training helped him develop discipline, endurance, and mental resilience, qualities that continue to define his approach to calisthenics today. The sport quickly became more than just training - it became a lifestyle that gave him purpose and a clear vision for the future.

Rigorous Training Regimen

Simon trains around 1.5 hours per session, six days a week, focusing on both strength and freestyle combinations. His favorite equipment includes parallettes (p-bars), resistance bands, and chalk, tools that allow him to improve control, balance, and explosive power. For beginners in calisthenics and street workout, Simon recommends choosing exercises you genuinely enjoy, as this makes it easier to stay consistent and build long-term progress.

Balancing Act

Outside of training, Simon maintains a busy lifestyle. He is currently studying mechanical engineering full-time while also running his own small business in the fitness and ATV repair industry. He follows a balanced diet without counting calories and supplements his nutrition with creatine, magnesium, omega-3, and vitamin D during winter to support recovery and performance.

Inspiration and Vision

One of Simon’s biggest challenges was believing he could succeed in calisthenics despite being heavier than many freestyle athletes. Today, he uses that experience as motivation. His long-term goal is to inspire more people to start calisthenics and travel the world connecting with communities. Outside the sport, he enjoys fishing, sauna sessions, ice baths, skiing, and spending time with friends, often training to the music of Suicideboys. Guided early in his journey by mentor Daniel Flefil, Simon continues to represent the positive spirit of the sport with a simple message: “Good vibes only! I’m proud to be part of the calisthenics community.”
